LOYF is a non-profit corporation that provides a safe and controlled environment for students to participate in tackle football and 3/4 Rookie football.
TVYFL is the organization that coordinates the play between the 50+ individual youth football associations in the Portland and Salem metro areas. They provide the framework, rules, and schedules for the approximately 200 teams and 6000 players. For more information, see the TVYFL web site.
As with any sport, there is a significant time commitment necessary for youth football. Practice starts in mid August and includes 2 hours of practice Monday thru Friday until the school year begins, and then 3 days per week. Games begin the Saturday AFTER Labor Day and are played on Saturday's thereafter. The TVYFL is currently working on the schedule but plan for the season to conclude by Halloween. A mandatory 10 hours of conditioning is required before any player may put on helmet and/ or pads. This is a critical time for each player to be available. When school starts, practices are 2 hours/ 3 times per week. Home games are played at Lake Oswego High School.
Any students who will be entering the 3rd - 8th grade in the Fall and lives within the Lake Oswego High School or Riverdale School district boundaries or attends a private school within the city of Lake Oswego may participate. Students attending Lake Oswego Junior High, Uplands, Forest Hills, Oak Creek or Lake Grove Schools are automatically accepted.
TVYFL teams are generally organized by the high school which you would normally attend. Please go to the TVYFL web site to find the contact information for the team that supports youth in your area. If you have eligibility questions, please contact LOYF President, Grant Hammersley via the website.
Family vacation is IMPORTANT to all of us and we recognize that! Report date for tackle football players for the 2021 fall season is August 9th which falls in line with the high school football schedule. If you have any flexibility, we highly recommend that you schedule vacation prior to the time players report date to allow for your player(s) to complete their conditioning and padded practice requirements.
Yes, but it's secondary to your own personal insurance plan to which claims must be submitted first.
During equipment hand-outs in August, each player will receive a helmet, shoulder pads, practice jersey, and two-in-one "integrated" Nike practice/game pants with built in padding. Game jerseys are distributed prior to beginning of the season. Helmets, shoulder pads, and game jersey are returned at the end of the football season.
